I've been working hard on an animated short film lately, handling character and prop design, so in between work and life I try to still give myself at least a couple hours a week to just sketch for fun and practice. This is my time to relax, watch television and just let my brain wander... sort of stretching my sketch-muscles.
Here a sketchbook page from one such session a couple weeks ago:

(these are Prismacolor markers and Prismacolor colored pencils on paper)

Blood berries ftw.

ReplyDeletebeautiful sketches man, inspiring work!
ReplyDeleteAre these from your mind or do you sketch looking at references?
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful and I very much enjoy your blog! :)

Thanks, Junko. Much of this is from reference. I will look at animal books, but I will exaggerate and distort, embellish, enhance expressions, and change the image a bit. Also color choice is a fun variable.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. :)
Wow, thank you for responding to my comment Joe!
ReplyDeleteI love learning from other artists so I really appreciate it!
Looking forward to more of your works! :)
Very nice birdie sketches. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat hummingbird is gorgeous! I just did a tattoo recently of a hummingbird and it turned out pretty nice, but the dynamics of the one you've drawn here is just swell! You have a great gift for capturing emotion.
