National Caricaturist Network

This is a preview of a documentary being created on caricaturists. There is not a set date for release or completion, but this trailer has been made available. I get quite excited when I relive this convention, even if only for a few minutes. There is nothing quite like the inspiring NCN conventions.

What a great video. I'm not an artist, but I know I'd have a blast just overlooking everything that goes on. I'd be the guy in the corner that just laughs at everything. :D

Attending an NCN convention is probably better than going to Disney World.

Very cool. I'm looking forward to the full doc!

Are the NCN conventions open to the public? It would be so cool to see everyone riffing.

Bog- that would be my good buddy Glenn Ferguson, the "Susan Lucci of the NCN" as referred to in the video.

kinda off-topic, but i was checking out tom richmond's website, specifically his Mad Art section, and one spread caught my eye, the "Dump My Ride" from Mad #456. Is that you?

Anyway, big fan of yours, waiting on that next podcast. Thanks again for posting the video. Later.

Hey, I'll answer for Joe, since he and Tom are both good friends, and I know the answer....that is DEFINITELY Joe in that parody!

Thanks a lot to take the time for answering my question!!.. I haven't installed the audio in my computer yet, so I couldn't hear his name..

That's a great little clip. Although I hope the documentary also goes into the positive merits and disciplines of caricature as an art form, rather than it just having the ability to upset people.

It was good to see that again (I was at the convention last month). Knowing that the documentary isn't finished yet, I think Marco makes a good point about only showing the side of caricature which is upsetting. That seemed to be the focus of the clip; and I didn't particularly appreciate the tall, blonde guy who did the piece on Jews as "Jaws"- I think that's just spreading hate, and should be differentiated from exaggerating someone's facial features as entertainment and an art form rather than simply insulting someone.

I agree that it could be taken from the negative angle, but I really feel that the spirit of the event will shine through. After hearing the intentions of the documentary and seeing this trailer, I feel that it will be done respectfully, honestly and fun.

As for the "JEWS" drawing, the individual who did it knew the subject, and they were both okay with it. It was a joke that they were fine with, so I see no harm, but I understand that it is a sensetive subject.

Dang you guys are goood! I'd love to go one year. Seo said nothing but good things.

Ah, it's good to know that it was somebody specific and he was okay with it; you don't get that from the film clip.

Btw, I host a figure drawing night in Bushwick every Monday from 7-10 if you're so inclined. Let me know and I can give you further info. It would be great to have a master there...

I'd definitely love to hear more about the figure drawing class. I am in dire need of more life drawing attention! Send me an email from my website. Thanks!
