Very sad! I love his stories, he had an amazing ability to connect into a child's world, and when I read his stories to kids, I feel like I am traveling back there a little bit. Rest in peace. -Josh Powers

Joe,

Just stumbled upon your tribute to Maurice Sendak from an "friend" on Facebook and traced it back here.

I've followed your career since I originally found your brilliant "Rejects" videos on YouTube - and just wanted to say that your success in recent years doesn't strike me as the least bit surprising. You've seemingly always had the attitude of putting forth your pure vision, and that attracts people to the purity of you art.

Being unique is something that many artists aren't comfortable with. They'd rather follow in the well-worn path of previous successes, only to find that the public doesn't respond as passionately to pieces that refuse to venture outside the norm.

Mr. Sendak's life should be a beacon to young artists. As Maurice once said about his writing, "I don't write for children. I write, and somebody says, 'That's for children.'" The artist should give his purest vision to the world, and allow the world to define his vision.

You're just beginning your journey into the creative world... and just wanted you to know that we're watching and waiting with the excitement of things to come.
